Here is the 2022 Back To The City line-up including A-Reece, Blxckie, Big Zulu, Nadia Nakai + more…
As you already know, Back To The City is making a comeback this year after a two-year hiatus that was due to the Covid-19 outbreak. According to the organisers, in 2019, 20,000 fans showed up to celebrate hip-hop at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Joburg; the same venue Back To The City will be hosted this year on 1 October.
This year’s line-up includes more than 40 rappers who range from household names like A-Reece, Blxckie, Big Zulu and Nadia Nakai to fast-growing artists like Bravo Le Roux, Ntate Stunna, Stino Le Twenny and Landrose.
Notably, hip-hop mega stars Cassper Nyovest, AKA, Kwesta and K.O are not on the line-up this year. Reason aka Sizwe Alakine, who has performed at almost every Back To The City since inception, also didn’t make the cut. This year, there is a large number of first-time Back To The City performers including Tyson Sybateli, Loki, Flash Ikumkani and Static Flo just to mention a few.
Kwaito legends Mapaputsi and Alaska will also grace the festival’s stage as part of the Heritage feature which, in 2017, hosted kwaito star Zola7.
