The Reuse Hub

The Reuse Hub, Wolverhampton is a joint undertaking between The Rebuild Site and ASAN Wood Saints. In a similar model to Rebuild in Carlisle, which has been operating since 2021, the Hub will help the construction sector minimise waste, maximise resource use and reduce carbon emissions through diverting usable products and materials from downcycling, incineration and landfill and enabling reuse – therefore keeping resources at a higher value for longer. ASAN Wood Saints has been operating in the West Midlands for a number of years, specifically for wood, and given the opportunity to open a hub in the region it made sense to join with ASAN to deliver a more comprehensive offer and build on the great work they already do.

A little more information...

The Reuse Hub will be working with the regional construction industry and associated organisations to divert surplus materials from construction sites, builders’ merchants, wholesalers and others in the supply chain operating in the West Midlands and sell them on giving local communities and businesses access to low-cost building materials. We will also provide free materials to support community projects and facilitate increased community resilience through social value activities.

The catalyst to open up a reuse hub in Wolverhampton came in the form of an opportunity to get some grant funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority. The WMCA are advocates of the circular economy, and their West Midlands Circular Economy Routemap included the aspiration to have a network of construction materials reuse hubs across the region.

We are excited to say that our grant application was successful and is a great support to getting The Reuse Hub initiative kick started. We are now approaching contractors and developers that have sites in the West Midlands to collect their surplus materials ready for a summer 2024 opening. We have already received a lot of positive encouragement and offers of support, and we are hoping this will translate into working with a wide range of the construction sector in the region to create maximum environmental and social impact with the work we are doing. Contractors, Builders Merchants and Wholesalers

We want to make it easy for sites and businesses to avoid putting usable construction products and materials in the skip.

Reusing surplus materials reduces environmental impact by decreasing carbon emissions and maximising resource use.

Some of your surplus materials are donated to local community projects, supporting organisations such as Men in Sheds, community gardening projects and local schools and colleges. Materials will also be available for sale to the general public and local trades giving people access to affordable construction materials that would otherwise be wasted…

…so reusing materials from site also has a positive social impact which can help your business win work by scoring on social value questions, such as those required by the TOMs framework, that can be tough to measure in your day to day business.

We accept a wide range of usable construction materials and have either an annual subscription or one-off collections available.

We are not a waste management company and do not handle waste materials. We only accept materials that can be used again for the same purpose as was originally intended.
