Solo Sae is an artist that I have been following for some time now and his talents, in my eyes, are undisputed and the release of ‘Girls I LIke: Lost Tapes’ is confirmation of that. He opens the tape with a deeply emotive single titled ‘Keeper’. The song is carried by Solo Sae’s majestic vocals that balance the ideas of songwriting and flow perfectly. The track is filled with echoes and backing vocals to support Solo Sae’s performance and it makes for a beautiful listen with the crescendo coming near the tail end of the song. We take a downtempo turn on the song, ‘Right for Me’. The single carries a similar vocal performance from the intro song, however, Solo Sae takes a step back in order for the qualities of the production to shine through. With noticeably slower production, his approach to the single is spot on. He follows that up with the single ‘Want from Me’. The production is jiggy in its presentation and carries more of a classic R&B sound, relatively speaking ofcourse. The single also sees Solo Sae enter a flow closer to that of a rapper in comparison to what we received on the first two songs, which is a welcomed edition to balance out the tape. To close off the project, we listen to Solo Sae flow a top of trapsoul inspired beat on the single ‘Low Profile’. The single ties in everything I enjoy about Solo Sae and ‘Low Profile’ neatly ties a ribbon around ‘Girls I LIke: Lost Tapes’. Listen to the tape below.
