The Rebuild Site CIC has a community-centric approach. Our mission is to inspire individuals to reconsider their approach to material usage and salvage

discarded materials. We aim to maximize the reuse of surplus and ‘almost-new’ materials. This way, we aim to generate value

from what is commonly perceived as waste.

Susan’s farm is a charity that focuses on education for adults and young people with learning

difficulties through working and experience in farming. Susan’s Farm used materials from Rebuild to create a small goose shelter. This provides shelter from the weather as well as keeping geese safe from potential predators.

They have also used Rebuilds Materials to create some small Christmas crafts using plant pots and tiles.

“As a charity, we are working at times on a very small budget, so the fact that you are able to support community projects is a massive bonus.”

We’re happy to say that we’re now part of the Community RePaint Scheme! Our new paint store stocks both surplus paint which would have gone to be incinerated, and ReColour, which is filtered and remixed from excess batches of paint into usable full tins. Paint starts at just £2 per litre, and we currently have matt emulsion, masonry and furniture paint in a range of colours.

The Rebuild Site CIC saves surplus building materials from going to landfill. We either donate these to community groups and charities for their projects, or they go into our shop to provide materials at a low cost to our local community.

Four times a year we host a Rebuild Donation Day, where we accept donations of building materials from the general public at our depot in Carlisle.

Our next donation day is Sunday 12 June, 10am – 1pm.

Donations are most useful to us when they are in saleable condition. For us, this means they are new/unused, clean and organised, and not damaged or broken!

Donation Wish List:

  • Timber lengths, both dressed and undressed, treated and untreated
  • Timber offcuts
  • Decking
  • Fence panels and posts
  • Skirting boards and architrave
  • Window boards/window sills
  • MDF and OSB
  • Ply wood sheets
  • Plasterboard of all types, including reasonably sized offcuts (eg ½ sheet)
  • Insulation
  • Guttering
  • Tiles

  • Paving slabs
  • Packs of laminate flooring
  • Full packs of wood screws and nails (organised/sorted – we don’t have time to sort through big tins of nails unfortunately!)
  • Taps and other ironmongery
  • Plumbing parts
  • Radiators, towel rails
  • Kitchen sinks
  • Kitchen worktops (new/unused/surplus)
  • Drainage pipes and associated fittings
  • Sand (in unopened bags)
  • Paint tins (at least half full)

If you have other items not listed here which you think might be useful, email us to see if we can accept them: info@rebuildsite.co.uk, or give us a call Thursday – Saturday on 07391161008

We’re also accepting standard sized doors for a community project.

What we definitely can’t take:

  • Aggregates/tarmac etc

What’s in Stock?

We’ve been busy beavers over the past two weeks picking up lots of surplus building materials from sites in the County and receiving some welcome deliveries of surplus materials from our supporters Travis Perkins.

Our stock this week includes: timber in various sizes, fencing boards, new wooden doors (including oak) and hardware, wooden lintels, pallet wood, guttering and plastic pipes, drainage biscuits (perfect for repurposing as raised beds!) blocks and bricks, sinks and toilet cisterns, plumbing and heating sundries, radiators, manhole covers and a range of other items.

Why Shop With Us?

  1. We’re a social enterprise, which means our profits are re-invested into our community focused projects. We’re just starting out, and have big plans for providing skills training, a welcoming and inclusive space to work for those who need it most, alongside supporting our community organisations with free building materials for their projects.
  2. Our stock is competitively priced; expect to pay around 60% of what you would in a builder’s merchants. We also sell items individually, so if you only need one brick you don’t have to pay for a whole pack.
  3. We save perfectly good materials from going to recycling or landfill. By reusing materials rather than recycling, we reduce carbon emissions of materials and help to get everyone thinking about the benefits of a circular economy.
  4. We’re friendly and welcoming; we’re happy to have a chat about your latest DIY project and see what we can find in our depot that will help you out.

How to Find Us

We are located on Dukes Drive at Kingmoor Park, CA6 4SH. We are 3 minutes drive from Junction 44 on the M6.

There is parking outside the building, please enter on foot via the ramp and use the green walkways to access the depot. Vehicles are only allowed inside the building for loading purposes or for those with mobility needs, and a one way system is in operation.

Our what3words location is: supported.crisp.dial

We have funding! https://www.rebuildsite.co.uk/2022/01/14/we-have-funding/ Fri, 14 Jan 2022 16:35:32 +0000 https://www.rebuildsite.co.uk/?p=626 ... Read more »]]> We’re pleased to announce that the Rebuild Site CIC has received funding from both the Cumbria County Council and Carlisle City Council to support the opening of our Rebuild Shop at Kingmoor Park. The funds will go towards a variety of items that will help us to operate safely and make sure all our stock is organised effectively.

Commenting on the award Councillor Cyril Weber said:

“I am delighted that Carlisle Local Committee have granted £5,000 towards this important local community organisation.  The work Rebuild CIC are doing in the city to change perceptions about the better use of materials, reclaimed materials and downcycling is helping to reduce the amount of items sent to landfill or waste services.  Their efforts to make building materials more affordable and accessible to local people is also a great way to support the local economy, as well as our residents and communities. On behalf of the council, I wish the organisation all the best for their plans in 2022.”

Rebuild Site Director Emma Porter added: “We are thrilled to have received this support thanks to Cumbria County Council and Carlisle City Council, and are confident the Rebuild Site will contribute to the County’s net zero targets whilst bringing about systematic change in the Construction industry.”
